
2026 Oceanside Half Long Course Triathlon - Intermediate - 12 week Program
Getting short of time to prepare for Oceanside? Maybe you have been training, but feel the need for some guideance.
Let's get you ready with a strategic approach to advance your fitness while balancing the needs of recovery in the final 12 weeks before race day. If you are a self-coached athlete looking to take the guesswork out of your training, and to help you get ready for seventy point three mile on race day, this is the race specific plan is for you!
12 week periodized training strategy with intelligent progressions to help you maximize your training time and elevate your half ironman triathlon performance.
Your plan takes the unique challenges of race day into consideration. Preparing for the demands of Oceanside during your training sessions will help you arrive to the start of the swim calm, confident and ready to do you best.
You should be in good health and cleared by your personal physician to engage in vigorous endurance training.
Your current fitness should be at a level equivalent of the benchmarks below:
-Able to swim 1600 yards/meters in a pool workout.
-Able to bike 1.5 hrs at an easy but steady pace.
-Able to run 45 minutes non-stop.
The plan calls for an average of:
2-3 swim sessions per week
3-4 run sessions per week
3 bike sessions per week
This 12 week training plan has a volume of training ranging from 7 hours 45 min to 13.5 hours per week.
Equipment required:
-swim goggles
-bike, helmet
-run shoes
-watch / smart watch
Additional equipment suggested to get the most out of the plan:
-heart rate monitor
-cycling computer with cadence function
-SMART trainer or stationary trainer for indoor bike rides
We suggest a full wetsuit and neoprene cap (or two swim caps) for race day.
